About the role
Every change to an Oriel map layer is checked by a human reviewer before customers see it. Those reviewers spend their whole day inside our map editor, a TypeScript and WebGL application that renders street imagery, vector layers and a queue of pending edits. It needs to be faster, and it needs a technical lead.
What you will do
- Set the technical direction for the editor and its rendering layer, and write a meaningful share of the code.
- Bring median time-per-review down by removing waiting: tile loading, layer switching, keyboard flows.
- Mentor four frontend engineers and run a design review practice the team trusts.
- Partner with the imagery pipeline team on the formats the editor consumes.
What you will bring
- Eight or more years of frontend engineering, including rendering-heavy work with WebGL, Canvas or similar.
- A record of leading projects across teams without being anyone’s manager.
- Experience profiling and fixing performance problems in large TypeScript codebases.
